weather is going to clear up. >> lisa: that is right. fog is going to hang for a couple more hours. clear by the delta right now and you take a look at dive doppler 7-hd. we are not picking up raindrops. in fact equal hour of daylight and darkness. 11 hours, 59 minutes of daylight tomorrow. we'll hit that 12-hour mark and looking at those days getting longer and longer. here is a look outside. you can see all the fog. certainly gray and numbers have dropped into the upper 40s. 46 in livermore. hayward, 51. fog will be hanging tough there for the next couple of hours. we do have some clear sky up in santa rosa los gatos, a mild 47 and take a look at the bay bridge. it's gotten worse in the last couple of hours but it is still getting squished at the surface. high pressure is building on top of it. we'll allow for more sunshine with 51 in san jose. 48 in half moon bay. plenty of events going on around the bay today with the brides marching today. breezy conditions and fog lasts until about 10:00 or 11:00 and few patches of san mateo coast and stay dry with the rain arriving late on t

plane crash in ft. lauderdale, florida. the plane carrying three passengers. abc's lisa stark has the story. >> reporter: this scene of devastation after the small twin engine piper plane smashed into a parking lot near the airport. the plane was engulfed in flames. cars were damaged and burning too. eyewitnesses say the plane had just taken off from ft. lauderdale's general aviation airport when it banked right and suddenly went down. >> looked out and i saw the plane just bank right into the ground behind the star light lounge and it exploded and then i kept hearing explosions. >> couldn't believe it. i was amazed how the plane went down so quickly and it -- the explosion and then the fire immedia immediately preceding it. it was pretty horrific. >> reporter: firefighters rushed to put out the flames but toofs fee late to save the three on the plane. this comes as federal officials are launching a new effort to reduce accidents involving private aircraft whichclaim nearly 500 lives every year. for "good morning america," lisa stark, abc news, ft. myers, florida. >> thank you, lisa.

. >> okay. meantime, lisa, there's something else impact air control towers. what is going on with that? >> reporter: i don't know how often you fly out of small airport, one in columbus, georgia, for example, a metropolitan airport that may have to close its control tower because of the forced budget cuts. here is another one we are looking at in this video, an airport in hagerstown, maryland. as a lot of folks know, tsa is going to have to furlough some of its air traffic controllers and what tsa has decided to do is just close control towers in the smaller airport bus it's more than 200 of those airports could be affected. they are all on a list. this week is the decisive one. these airports have until wednesday to make their best case for why they should be taken off that list, why they should be allowed to keep their control tower open. then a week from tomorrow, fred, we will get the final list of which airports will be closed. >> all right, lisa -- >> i'm sorry, which control towers will be closed. the airports may be able to stay open without the control towers. >> thanks so muc

them on board again is not sitting well with people who fly for a living and some lawmakers. lisa is in washington watching reaction to this change in security rules. so, lisa, why the change now? and who has a problem with it? >> right. okay, first, why the change now. the leader of the tsa says they have been studying this for years and that they figured out through that assessment that knives actually no longer pose the risk of breaking into a cockpit, allowing a terrorist to take control of the plane or to blow up the plane. so the tsa says knifes like you see here are actually not a catastrophic threat, and these are the knives that tsa says will now be allowed. they are knives with blades that are no longer than 2.36 inches and they are also knives that do not lock in place. so that's why the change now. who has a problem with it? well, for one, senator chuck schumer of new york. add news conference today urging the tsa to change its mind. he said if it didn't, he might try to make them. >> if the tsa refuses to go along we would consider legislation and my guess is it would be

international regulations. our lisa desjardains is live for us now in washington. there are some lawmakers who have new thoughts about this today. >> reporter: that's right. this weekend has been a big one on this issue today. yesterday, ed marquee of massachusetts, a house member came out against this today, two hours ago, senator chuck schumer of new york held a news conference urging the tsa to change its mind and he made a threat if they don't. let's get right to what chuck schumer said. >> if the tsa refuses to go along we would very much consider legislation and my guess is it would have large, bipartisan support. i don't know anybody who has defended the tsa on this the merits, because it just doesn't make any sense. >> reporter: now, here you can see the change we are talking about. this is a change would start april 25th. you could carry knifes this size under 2.6 inches, into the plane's cabin. the agency believes that with cockpit doors now more secure, they say these things cannot bring down a plane but there is fierce opposition. look that the petition on whitehouse.
